DSM Register Readers' Top 100 Poll

Nice poll taken by the local paper. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. It is a good place to start for recs for visitors.

It's great that Tasty Tacos made the Top Ten! What do you think Bob?

  1. I don't have many arguments with it. I think if they would have run the poll on the Registers regular website, it would have had better participation. Putting it on Metromix might have slowed the responses. I didn't vote because I didn't care enough to have to register and fill in all my information again. Since I didn't vote, I'm not entitled to an opinion. That said, here is my opinion.
The area covered has a population of probably around 400,000 people. The vote totals are pretty low for that area, especially as much as the Register promoted it. I think once you get outside the top 10 or 20, it could be mostly employee driven.
Centro works for me. I've been happy the times I went. I think Flying Mango is a little high.
It did make me want to run out to Tasty Taco. Been awhile, and I could use a fix.
Maid Rite is a surprise. I'd rather drop down to 100 and get a double with cheese from B-Bops.
I really would have liked to see Manhattan Deli show up. Best sandwiches in town.
Overall, pretty nice list. I wish they would have categorized it some.

Agreed about Manhattan Deli. Also, Tacos Mariana's should have been on the list. I don't like Dos Rios so high, or Hickory Park. Spaghetti Works and Mama Lacona's? Gross. This Top 100 should be cut to top 10 or top 20, just like you said. I think Wig & Pen should be on there, just for the pizza. B&B's should for sandwiches as well.

Thats nice to know, I was beginning to think that I was the only person in the world who groaned while being dragged to Hickory Park...

I think it's more of a quantity thing than a quality thing. The food there just isn't that good.

I think this kind of poll gives a huge advantage to places with facebook and twitter followers, or even just a generally young clientele. Metromix is an annoying website with very little content, I prefer des moines alive for user reviews. I saw the promotins to vote in this list, and I have an account but never bothered. I think Cityview's reader polls come out soon.
