Palm Beach County - New or Coming Soon
In the old location of Rosa's Mexicana in Downtown @ The Gardens will be Cabo Flats Cantina & Tequila Bar. The website is up but still a work in progress. D@TG was recently sold to some investors and they have plans to turn it around. My belief is that they should add stores and restaurants in which the average family would patronize and return often. The new owners are adding special events like live music and have other plans in the making.
Cabo Flats, across from The Yardhouse, is slated to open some time in January. It wil be somewhat reasonably priced compared to Rosa's and I hear there will be an outdoor area as well. It sounds like it's off to a good start.
Also some news for people who frequented the long time El Colonial cuban resto on US-1 In Lake Park. I recently saw Qban resto next to Planet Fitness in the Promenade on A1A Alt in Palm Beach Gardens. This is the former location of Don Ramon I believe. While reading the menu in the window, I saw that this is the new place from the owner of the former El Colonial.

New in North Palm Beach US-1 near Parker Bridge at Camelot Motor Lodge is the Ochna Restaurant and Bar. It is Vietnamese with some fusion dishes.

I drove by the corner of Dixie and Lake Ave. in Lake Worth this morning... This is where the now defunct Michaels was, then Cheese Burger Cheese Burger was, then Miami Subs... There is a sign "coming soon, Pietro's Cafe" Anyone know of this new restaurant? I hope it's nice, I hope it lasts... Not a good spot because of traffic and parking.

re: smartie
It is a chain indeed and is called Brio Tuscan Grille.

Opening soon - Mrs. Smokey's real pit BBQ in Lake Park on A1A Alt. just south of Northlake Blvd. This place looks promising.
Now open - BIG Momma's Smokehouse BBQ on Northlake Blvd. on southeast corner of Military in the Winn Dixie plaza. Also in WPB and Royal PB and coming to Delray. Website says "Home of the award winning hickory smoke ribs and southern style cooking" but does not offer any details on what awards. It's a bbq chain concept right out of the gates so I have my doubts.

Just when you thought PBG/Jupiter couldn't handle another burger joint, here it comes!
Chef Allen Susser will be opening his Burger Bar across from Scripps on Donald Ross Road in Donald Ross Village.
It appears PBG is now the burger testing ground for launching new burger-fied concepts.

"The competition for burger lovers just keeps on sizzling. The latest to enter the market – Chef Allen Susser. Actually, he entered a while ago with his first Burger Bar, but you’d have to go to the airport to grab a bite since it’s located at Terminal 4 in the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.
But next month, Susser, who shuttered his namesake restaurant in Aventura earlier this year, will open a second Burger Bar in Donald Ross Village in Palm Beach Gardens next month. It will serve as the prototype for future concepts..."

re: freakerdude
Chuck Burger - nothing too new or exciting here on the burger front. This place is cheaper than Carmine's and the burgers are very good but on the small side. The fries are frozen crinkle cuts and they should ditch those. Both Carmines and 5 Fat Guys are fresh cut fries and separate themselves from Chuck in that category. Cheeseburger, fries, and itty bitty bottle Fiji water was ~ $9.50

New burger joint - Gourmet Burger Co. (from El Salvador) is open in Jupiter on US-1 just south of Indiantown Road. They don't have a website but here is more info if you are interested in reading about it. Do we really need another new burger joint concept?

Mr. Greek Taverna is opening soon in PBG's Promenade on A1A Alt in the old location for the short lived Dune Dog. We already have 3 other greek places and 2 are hard to beat. They should be open soon and have seen some recent activity.
Prosecco Café in PGA Commons East has just opened up. I believe this is affiliated with the Saquella Cafe in Boca Raton

The owner who ran the now closed Ocean Grill has opened Casa Mia in Jupiter in the old Marc's Chophouse location (Fisherman's Wharf). I have been once and the food was very good from a solo visit. Most everything on the menu is very reasonably priced, mostly all under $20. Veal with wild mushroom sauce and polenta was very good. Roberto and his family have been in the resto business for generations.
Check out their menu online:

A 2nd location for CG's Burgers is planned to open in the very short lived Bice > ? Irish Pub > Firehouse Grill location just east of the Intracoastal on PGA. This would be just east of Panama Hatties on the south side of PGA.
Also, Carmine has closed Noche and will re-open as a seafood and sushi resto.

I just saw a new place in PBG Shoppes of Oakwood on US-1 @ PGA. It's called Tijuana Flats Burrito Co. and the menu looks like your average 'rito joint. Has anyone ever been and do they have a salsa bar? They are mainly all over Fla. it appears.

re: freakerdude
I know it's not exactly in your neck of the woods, but if you're ever in Fort Lauderdale or Plantation, check out Zona Fresca. Their salsa is ridiculously good. It's made with char-grilled tomatoes, onions, and peppers which lends it a very smoky, caramelized flavor. Best salsa around, hands down.

I tried out Qban in PBG and wasn't happy with what I ordered. It was supposed to be grouper or snapper but there aren't any filets that are legally that small. I am certain I was served a cheaper inexpensive fish in it's place. It had definitely been frozen. I doubt I will go back except maybe for a cuban sandwich and beans/rice.

Carmine, of Carmine's Gourmet Market, La Trattoria, and Noche resto, is opening a coal fired pizza resto (name unknown) and a buger joint called CG's Burgers. This is located in the same Bermudiana Plaza as Leftover's Cafe in Jupiter/Abacoa. No opening date has been set that I know of. If his coal fired pizza ia anywhere near his market's pizza, this place will be a big hit. I would expect the burger place to be top notch quality as well.

re: freakerdude
CG's Burgers is open in Jupiter and it's a no frills type burger joint. There's a few burger combinationsbut mostly just the run of the mill, nothing too exotic. Miost bugers are $5.50 and up to $7 for the kobe beef burger (5oz). Sides of fries cost you an extra $2 to 2.50 .They have a small salad bar and a few sandwiches like filet mignon.
The 'bigger burger' was a 7oz patty for $7and pretty good. The beef was packed too densely for my preference but maybe it will get worked out. Toppings are free fromwhat I saw and they have three groups of them. Frehs cut garlic fries were kind oif weird since mine had garlic powder on them and not minced garlic. I say weird b/c they charge you an extra 50 cents for garlic fries. Again, maybe this was an error on their part or just opening problems needing to be worked out.
Brass Ring still serves a better burger. Grease Bar would be next and then CG's judging from my solo visit to the latter.

Did Mister Milano ever open up in Palm Beach Gardens? http://www.mistermilano.com/ I saw this in the Mirasol shopping plaza a few months ago, but haven't heard about it since. Also, The Office in Delray should be opening any day now.

re: CFByrne
CFB, that reminds me. If you are talking about the Hot Dogopolis plaza at 6020 US-1 Boca, it is Rib Bizz BBQ . I haven't been back to HDO since before xmas to check on the progress though. As soon as it opens, I will check it out. I typically don't eat out for lunch during the week except to try new places like this.
Emac, I'm still patiently waiting on that BGE you bought me for xmas.

re: freakerdude
Here's the scoop on RibBizz - looks like it is really happening!
"When you get right down to it, the business of barbecue is ribs, and ribs are certainly the business of Marquita and Curtis Houston's Rib Bizz, set to debut the first week of March in Boca Raton (6020 N. Federal Hwy., 561-998-2020)..."
