Where can I buy zongzi in southern NH/northern MA?

Tante Dec 30, 2009 06:16 PM

Can anyone recommend an Asian market that carries zongzi (glutinous rice dumplings) in the southern NH/northern MA area? A coworker brought them into my office a few years ago and I have not stopped thinking about them since. She said some local markets will carry them but usually only around the time of the traditional Dragon Boat festival (June, I think). I'd love to find out where I can buy them, and when. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure, but I don't remeber seeing zhongzi at H-mart or at the Chinese grocery (formerly called Merlion, I can't remeber its current name) on 101A in Nashua. H Mart is a Korean market, and the grocery on 101A is owned by a Thai woman now (they do carry a good basic selection of Chinese dry goods, frozen foods and some vegetables, but not much by way of home cooked prepared foods).

Battambang on Church Street in Lowell usually has the Cambodian equivelant of zhongzi available in the prepared food section. Also there is a small Chinese grocery in downtown Chelmsford Mass that almost always has Chinese zhongzi available, both meat and peanut filling.

I'm not aware of anyplace in Nashua/Manchester that does.

Here's a place on rte 101A in Nashua, that might have them. I've only been in there once, and don't remember all the things they have.

It is in the next strip type mall after the one Cucina Toscana is in going towards Amherst/Milford. Right around Building 19, but on the other side of the street.

H Mart in Burlington, MA has got to have them. Good luck!

Ah, of course! I was just reading the H Mart thread; can't wait to check it out next time I'm down in that area. Thanks!
