Group eating
We're going to be midsize posse, maybe 5 - 9 people, descending upon the fair island this coming weekend. I'm thinking it might be fun to try a kind of group eating, shared dish type meal, and as such, am obviously leaning towards whatever old DChang has in the offing.
But dammit if I don't hit up Momofuku every time I'm here, and what is the new year if not a time of new beginnings?
There's always Shabu Shabu and Mongolian Hot Pot, but I don't know, that's an ok fallback. There's gotta be something brilliant out there, we just gotta find it.
Most of our group will be staying around the LES, but whatever, they can get around.
Whaddaya have in mind?
Also; Thanks!
Re; Also: Happy new year 'hounds!

Momofuku Noodle Bar has the fried chicken dinner but it is most likely fully booked if you're talking about this weekend AKA 2 days from now.
Momofuku Ssam Bar offers the bo ssam dinner, a whole roasted pork shoulder butt with fixings, but I'd check NOW to grab a reservation. (In fact a LOT of places are going to be fully committed since this is a very popular time to visit NYC.)
At Alta you can order the "whole shebang" is everything on the menu.
Daisy May's BBQ also has a "whole hog" special group dinner.
Hill Country can also be a lot of fun with a big group since you order food by the pound.
Resto also offers something similar, that they call "large format feasts."
Kuma Inn, Boqueria, Otto are very accommodating of large groups (reservations highly recommended) and sharing a lot of small plates can be fun.
I also like Blue Ribbon Brasserie or Blue Ribbon Bakery (they ONLY take reservations for large groups) for a big group, as well as Chinese food (if your group can handle spicy food, I'd definitely go to Szechuan Gourmet on 39th). For something more upscale, I'd try Craft, where the portions are pretty big, but I don't know if they can accomodate a group of 9 (I think 8 might be the max?) on such short notice.
