I just ordered a package of chia seeds because they sounded interesting and have some strong health benefits. I am looking for ideas on how to use them. I've read about making a chia seed gel, if you mix them with water the expand sort of like tapioca? Has anyone made the gel, how does it taste, what is the process and then what do you use it for.
I intend to use them somewhat like flax seeds- mix in with oatmeal, cottage cheese and fruit, etc. does anyone else eat them this way or other ideas/suggestions?
I use steel cut oats and cook them overnight in a slow cooker, using 1 c. oats to 4 c. liquid....I probably add about 1/2 c. of the gel to that amount (after cooking, I just stir in before serving), and it doesn't thin it out much, but if you are concerned the first time, maybe cut back on your liquid a little to be safe?
