Hoppin' John

It's a Southern dish traditionally served on New Year's Day to bring good luck in the coming year. Rather than do as the Lee brothers suggest, and prepare it myself...

...I'd prefer to find it in the field. Does anyone know of any New York restaurant (preferably in Manhattan, but as always, will travel) that's serving it on Friday?

It's a bit late, but maybe for next year, give the North Carolina Country Store on Atlantic Ave. in Brownsville a call. I don't remember if the restaurant is still (or again) open, but the store has fresh prepared foods for take-out in any case. I'd bet they have Hoppin' John for the New Year. BTW here this year's Times article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/30/din...
