NYE Finger Foods

We are hosting a small group of 6 people for NY's. I usually do several plates of finger foods so everyone can pick throughout the night as they see fit. However, this year, we have 2 folks who have an aversion to shellfish (my original plan was to do a lobster/mango salad lettuce cups, fried oysters, shrimp cocktail, etc). So I'm in need of some new ideas. I have a few ideas from years past I am going to use...fried brie in wonton wrappers, open faced steak sandwiches...and thats about it. One of our other guests is a pescatarian so I need to make sure I have enough options for him as well. Maybe a goat cheese, fig, and honey drizzled open faced?

I have been looking through my cookbooks and feeling uninspired....any ideas from the hounds?

  1. For a recent holiday party I made an app that came out great and will be repeated as soon as possible. It was based on the epicurious recipe Vermont Cheddar Cheese and Herbed Twists, but I used different cheeses and used a thin spread of onion confit for one of the layers. The basic technique of layering in fillings into the dough seems very flexible. I did bake them longer than the recipe calls for since some of the comments indicated that they can get soggy.

        fried chickpeas (i've never tried with sage, but with paprika is delish) -
        herbed potato bites w/ goat cheese -

        I'm still narrowing down my menu (just 4 of us) but these are still in the running - simple, comfort food with a classy & gourmet twist!

        1. "aversion to shellfish" as in you can't serve it in any form because they'll gag being in sight of it? or aversion, as in you don't want to serve a lot of it...

          You could do stuffed Mushrooms.
          Or Mushroom Stuffed Endives
          Or these lovely stuffed Endives:

          Perhaps (for the non-pescatarian) some prosciutto wrapped melon bites.

          Ratatouille Wrapped in Filo Dough and baked til golden

          Deviled Eggs always go over well, and you could do several interesting variations

          Perhaps skewered bites of a cherry tomato, mozzarella ball, and a basil shard in between the two, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar

          Mini quiche bites

          Blini topped with a dollop of sour cream and caviar
          Pumpernickel round topped with a dollop of cream cheese, lox, capers, and a drizzle of lemon juice

          Are mini-sliders too much work for you?

          Asparagus Roll-ups - roll up asparagus with parmesan or asiago in puff pastry and bake, then drizzle and serve with hollandaise or lemon-butter

          Chicken Satay on skewers

          Mini-phyllo cups filled with Spinach-Artichoke-Cheese dip/mixture or Sundried Tomatoes and Feta

            Aversion as in strong dislike of shellfish and will not eat it. Thanks for all the ideas though. Very helpful!
