Anyone have a recommendation for Mexican Shrimp Cocktail in Oakland, please?
In spite of the chilly weather, I have a hankering for a Mexican shrimp cocktail; one of those gazpacho like concoctions with chopped up avocado, onions etc and big plump shrimp. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I usually go to Mariscos Manzanillo on International (love the bowl of radishes on each table) but I wondered if anyone has a suggestion for a different place to try.
it has been a while but Taqueria San Jose was good.

The taco truck on the same lot as Sinaloa on International has an amazing version but I think they have a fish version, now sure if they have a shrimp version, but I would be surprised if they don't. Good luck and post your findings.

The seafood truck on the upside of the lot does have it as well as pulpo (octopus) and maybe a mixed cocktail. Have only had the pulpo, but it was too long ago to be able to recommend or not... Really large portion with a side of saltines.

The shrimp cocktail at Sinaloa is a great value but the cocktail sauce is slightly bland (fixable with the hot sauce they give you) but you get lots of good sized shrimp. A friend got it a couple of weeks ago...looked like a quart sized container 75-85% full.
Mariscos La Costa is another place that specializes in Mexican seafood but I haven't been there in a long, long time.

Thanks for the options, but since it was too cold to face going to a taco truck, I ended up going back to Mariscos Manzanillo. It had been a couple of years since I had been there, but it was as good as I remember. Still the bouquet of radishes on each table; nice warm chips (though I'm not crazy about their salsa). The large shrimp cocktail was $12.95 filled with sweet tender shrimp and chopped avocado and onion. It comes in some kind of cloudy broth, but after adding ketchup, lime and hot sauce, I ate every last spoonful. With a nice cold Negra Modelo for $2.95, it was a great lunch. The only thing that had changed since the last time i was there was that instead of the old fashioned jukebox, it was a new video screen model.
