New Cupcake Shop just off Avenue Road, South of Wilson Ave., East side.

Hi,
for the life of me I cannot recall the name of the new cupcake place that should have just opened up. It is just a door up from the corner of Avenue Road and one of the East side roads.

Please post if you get there before I do!

Thanks!! You are right, Short and Sweet is the name.
I ordered 1/2 dozen for my family to try today. They just opened up this week.
Interesting cupcakes. More muffin like density and the icing is firm and crunchy, unlike the buttercreams I am used to (for example at the Cup Cake Shoppe on Yonge).
I had hopes for dreamy soft cupcakes.
I enjoyed their version of Red Velvet, it was not what I was used to but it did have a lovely raspberry in the centre under the icing.

          Anyone else try it?

I stopped by this afternoon and bought 3 cupcakes -- vanilla w/oreo frosting, vanilla w/vanilla frosting and chocolate w/coconut frosting. The chocolate was rather dry and crumbly and didn't have any depth of chocolate flavour. The frosting is thick and not to my personal taste. I'm guessing that the problem is that they are kosher and therefore don't use real butter in the frostings.

On the other hand, the oreo cupcake was significantly better -- the vanilla cake was moister and had bits of chocolate cookie in it, and the frosting was much lighter and creamier. In fact, I thought that it may have been just a stabilized whipped cream with crumbled oreos in it. But the kosher issue would nix that idea. I'm not 100% sure about the kosher thing though, but there was another customer in the store talking about an order and the gentleman was saying "yes, they are all kosher". So if it wasn't whipped cream, it was a reasonable facsimile. :)

While these were slightly better than my recent cupcake nightmare at Lollicakes and Half Baked Ideas, I probably won't be rushing back, but I may give that oreo cupcake another go one of these days.

Being kosher doesn't prohibit the use of butter or whipped cream.

Ah, you're right, my bad. I was thinking of Lollicakes, which touts itself as kosher AND dairy free -- and conflated the two in my head. Thanks for the clarification. :)

Except that it makes it inconvenient in a kosher household where the cupcakes might be served as dessert after a meal containing meat. This, I suspect, is a major influence for bakeries that specialize in "non-dairy" frostings, instead of simply using them to keep costs down. Lollicakes is a good example.
