It's not N Quincy, but give Five Spice in Quincy Center another try. They got a new chef a few months ago, and the food is really good now. Especially try the spicy salty white fish, pea pod tips with dried scallop sauce, and satay beef with clear vermicelli in a pot.

I'll second this. I hadn't been to Five Spices in a few years (from the original owners) and the food wasn't half bad - maybe not particularly remarkable, but certainly decent takes on the authenic side of Chinese cuisine. I went back there around New Year's Day and was very pleasantly surprised. Some different items (like the fried milk) which were quite good. Definitely great option if Hong Kong Eatery or East Chinatown are too packed.
The other place I forgot to mention was Ming's off Newport. One of the few (maybe only) place of that I know of with a focus on Fuzhou cuisine - also a number of dishes atypical to these parts.

I have never had Cathay Pacific sober, but I will never go there even still unless I have to. Great Chow is pretty much the only place around Quincy that I'll go to

Are you looking for Americanized Chinsese food? Can't help you much there, but if you want something authentic, I'd recommend East Chinatown on Hancock, and it's sister restaurant around the corner on Billings.

re: kobuta
Actually looking for a combination authentic and good Americanized, if that exists.
3 of the group appreciate authentic / good Americanized, 2 will only eat Americanized and
2 love Peking Duck.Of all the places mentioned, i have been to Quincy Dynasty and East Chinatown, although not for a long time. Very curious about Imperial Terrace. I have never seen a car parked there, so I have always been suspect, but it seems to get mentioned as a favorite.
What are your favorites from all of these places ?
Pegmeister, noted abou the New Years delivery. We will call order in the afternoon and pick up ourselves.

re: pasta
I don't eat much Americanized Chinese food, but I do like Mr. Chan's chicken wings if that helps. They're in East Milton Sq, so while not in Quincy, they're just as close an option.
For authentic Chinese food, I'd also recommend Hong Kong Eatery on Hancock St in Quincy Center. Please note they take cash only at this restaurant.

Another option would be China Jade located at 195 Newport Avenue (Quincy, Ma, 02170). It's located in a strip mall next to Dunkin Doughnuts and Superchef. The Americanized Chinese food is pretty good and the price point is a little lower than Great Chow or Quincy Dynasty. I concur with avoiding Cathay Pacific.

At all costs, please avoid Cathay Pacific, it is the absolute pits. On Billings Rd in North Quincy, Quincy Dynasty is quite good, and I believe they still have some Thai style dishes; chicken with red curry etc. For takeout though I almost always get it from Imperial Terrace. Their delivery is incredibly prompt, but I'm sure New Years Eve will be an exception to that. If you're ordering take out you're best to order early in the day for your evening deliveries. Great Chow in Wollaston is quite good as well, especially their crab rangoons.
