Gramercy Tavern help - Tavern or Dining Room?

l

My wife and I received a Gramercy Tavern gift certificate just recently. Can anyone help us to understand the menus before we go? Online it looks like there is an 86$ dinner menu in the dining room - I assume there are two courses to choose from and then a desert - the menu online only shows the choice of two courses.

The tasting room is obviously a much more economical choice. We would be willing however to splurge on the dinner room - any thoughts?

Thank you so much for any help.

You're in for a treat, one of the absolute best restaurants in NYC! I would say go ahead and splurge on the dining room. Tavern Room in nice but there is no comparison. I would say the Tavern Room excels in the appetizers and the cheese plate--it's great for a drink and nibble but you will have a far more memorable experience by going for the dining room.

Great thanks for the help. Have you had any recent experience w/ the dining room? Happy New Year.

While Gramercy Tavern does have lots of fans, we are not among them. Memorable experiences to be sure, but *not* in a good way. We have eaten there several times over the years and have yet to have a stellar meal. In fact, our dinner there in January of last year was our most disappointing meal of '09. My first and main courses were shockingly mediocre and, while my husband's dishes were better, they were still rather unexciting. Desserts were excellent At this point, we have given up on the dining room.

We do, however, like the Tavern Room. We were last there in September. The food, which has a rustic style, was uniformly excellent with robust, exciting flavors.

Great thanks. Yeah there are other restaurants we would have appreciated a gift cert to but to Gramercy we go.

I think we are going to go to the Tavern room. Appreciate your link - great photos!

Thanks for the compliment. A gift certificate to Gramercy is hardly a bad thing. Only, In my view, it's better spent in the Tavern Room than in the dining room.

Happy New Year! Enjoy and Bon Appetit!

Good choice. I've been satisfied every time in the tavern room and disappointed every time in the dining room. The cooking is solid throughout, but the tavern room's fare is simpler and less likely to run into a disappointing taste combination.
