Gramercy Tavern help - Tavern or Dining Room?
My wife and I received a Gramercy Tavern gift certificate just recently. Can anyone help us to understand the menus before we go? Online it looks like there is an 86$ dinner menu in the dining room - I assume there are two courses to choose from and then a desert - the menu online only shows the choice of two courses.
The tasting room is obviously a much more economical choice. We would be willing however to splurge on the dinner room - any thoughts?
Thank you so much for any help.
You're in for a treat, one of the absolute best restaurants in NYC! I would say go ahead and splurge on the dining room. Tavern Room in nice but there is no comparison. I would say the Tavern Room excels in the appetizers and the cheese plate--it's great for a drink and nibble but you will have a far more memorable experience by going for the dining room.
While Gramercy Tavern does have lots of fans, we are not among them. Memorable experiences to be sure, but *not* in a good way. We have eaten there several times over the years and have yet to have a stellar meal. In fact, our dinner there in January of last year was our most disappointing meal of '09. My first and main courses were shockingly mediocre and, while my husband's dishes were better, they were still rather unexciting. Desserts were excellent At this point, we have given up on the dining room.
We do, however, like the Tavern Room. We were last there in September. The food, which has a rustic style, was uniformly excellent with robust, exciting flavors.
