anyone have a good byob or no/lo corkage reco for shanghai

can be pretty eclectic as to the food--just have a really big delicious, yeasty bottle of champagne i'd like to drink with mrs soho! (assuming such a thing exists!) thanks a lot.

I would think that most restaurants in SH allow BYO... have definitely brought wine to both Le Platane and Villa du Lac, as well as Fook Lam Moon.

I must confess that I don't live in Shanghai, but I can pretty much bring wine to any place in HK, Taiwan, Singapore so expect the same for China. I'm always happy to pay corkage.

BTW I was not impressed with the food at Osteria...and I dined there on Christmas Eve!

i'd check with any restaurant in advance, as i've had several places in China say "absolutely not" (even when they don't serve wine)...on the other hand, i've had places say "of course" (and seem confused by the concept that anyone would even charge a corkage)...

i don't know the specific policy at Southern Barbarian (which is known for it's great ale selection) but the owner Fon is a great guy and i'd imagine if you told him the situation he'd be fine with it...i can imagine a yeasty champagne going very well w/ some of the delicious Yunnan food they serve there...
