Maitardi - Miami Design District
We had a great and very reasonably priced dinner at Maitardi in Miami's Design district last night.
The setting is really lovely. There is a gorgeous patio area with seating groupings and tables. We sat outside on the patio and were warmed by the propane lamps.
Our reservation was for 7:00 pm. We arrived a bit early and were seated at 6:50. We noticed on the menu that were a number of specials that if ordered before 7:00 pm, the cost is the time. We opted to order a number of these items (there are four pizzas and four pastas that apply). Our waiter said we ordered at 6:58, so the cost of the special items was $6.58.
There were five of us dining. From the specials, we ended up ordering two margherita pizzas, one sicialiana pizza (with black olives an anchovies) and one pizza diavola (with spicy salami), and a gnocchi with pesto. Off the menu, my son ordered a gnocchi bolognese. The pizzas and the gnocchis were terrific- crispy. My son's New York girlfriend was impressed with the pizza, and claimed it stood up to what she has that there. The gnocchi with pesto was really light. Off the regular menu, we also shared a salad rape rossi (with beets, oranges and shaved parmesan and a pistachio crusted goat cheese appetizer that came with beet chips to scoop. It was really nice to have the pizzas first, and then the salad as it was a really nice refreshing finish. The goat cheese was fantastic.
We also had two glasses of the Super Tuscan red, a Peroni beer, two cappucinos and two desserts- a tiramisu and a cheesecake with nutella. The bill with tax but before tip was $117.00. A true bargain.
The space is very family friendly, at least earlier in the evening. There were a number of people with small kids. Our kids are college aged. The space was so spread out that we were not disturbed at all. The service was very attentive. We will definitely be back.
