Nassau county first date spot?

I'm looking for a good place for a casual first date -- not looking for dinner.

Maybe a cool coffee shop, or a mellow but cool bar where we can hear each other?

Any ideas?

There are a couple of places in Garden City. Waterzooi comes to mind, nice casual atmosphere.

I've always read good things about this place:

Thanks. I've been to the cup. Waterzooi is a bit chic, no? I was hoping for a little more casual...

Waterzooi is not chic. It's a casual Belgian place. Might be a little dark for a first date . . .

Are you open to lunch or brunch?

Gabrielle's has a nice bar if you want to just hang for a little while.

I was going to suggest The Cup as well - LOVE their pie in a mug!

antipode - how about Roots in SeaCliff if things went well on your date? They are on holiday break now but will re-open Jan 13 or 14th I believe. Wed nights they have music which starts about 7:30. Small place with a great chef but very casual. May have to be over 40 to appreciate the vibe however.

Went to Roots about 1 1/2 years ago....glad it's still around. Enjoyed it much and have to remember to go back. The music makes it an even better evening.

Well, things got delayed. But we're on for Friday night, 8:00.

Which is complicated. Need: bar, not too noisy, not too crowded.

Ended up at the Library in Farmingdale, for drinks.

Not bad. Nice enough. Cool carousel decor. They let us drink at a table, instead of the crowded bar, because the Jets game was on. It got loud, of course, but that's to be expected.

Try Fork & Vine in Glen Head. Great, intimate bar. Forkandvineny.com
