Christmas miracle - Gumbos replaces Chiles in L.o.t.B

We were headed for crappy nachos in the land of the bland and discovered Gumbos is now in the old Chili's @ 360 and Westlake. Only tried the spinich salad, gumbo and étouffée but was what I remember the old Gumbos was. Yeah for my tastebuds, boo for my willpower.

Is this related to the one downtown or the one in Round Rock or neither? Or to the original?

When I asked the waiter, he said, "It's run by the owners who own both places." I started to say something, but the blank look said it all. I do know they're following the basic flavor formula of the things I tried. I didn't get a main dish, so I can't say.

Gumbo's in Round Round is independent from the other 2. Great service!!

You can really tell the difference between the downtown and the RR one. RR is far superior in every way. Haven't given the new one enough of a chance to judge. Did go by and take advantage of the happy hour over the holiday and enjoyed the oysers at half price.

AFAIK the RR location is a true descendant of the original Gumbo's on Bratton and Merriltown in Pflugerville that then moved to RR and was later sold. I don't know the history of the other Gumbo's but I don't think they are at all related, merely copies (very confusing since they have the same name). If anyone knows better please speak up.

It's owned by the same couple who owns the downtown one.

That is correct. Different menu (though some similar items) but totally different owners. The original owners sold RR to one group and downtown to another. The downtown have now opened Westlake. The original Gumbo's owners now run Mama Roux in Pflugerville (several reviews on this board)

Thanks, that is what I thought except that I did not know that the original owners (Michael and Yoli?) ever had anything to do with the downtown location.

Still no mention however of if the downtown location ever had any relationship with the original (I don't think it did, you'll notice the menus are different for one thing). I guess only the original owners could tell us.

Glad to know it's open now. There plan was to reduce the menu a tad with lower price points to make it more family oriented than the one downtown. Look forward to trying it out!

The menu is very much reduced, but I'd say the prices are equal to, if not higher than the downtown location. It didn't feel any more family oriented.
