Heng Heng 2-New Cambodian in Lowell
I've eaten at Heng Heng, a little fast food takeout place on Branch St. for years (they make great banh mi. BTW). The owners are very nice people and seem to be genuinely pleased that non-Khmer people enjoy their food. Recently, the owners opened a sit-down restaurant called Heng Heng 2 on RT110 in Lowell next to the Gaelic Club. We finally had a chance to try out the new place, and were very happy we did. We started off with beef sate and prahok in coconut sauce, with fresh crisp assorted veggies for dipping. Pungent, spicy, and addictive. Mango shrimp salad with fresh herbs, lort noodles (small plump rice noodles sometimes called "rat tails") with pork and a special fried rice with chinese sausage were also very good. Two stir-fry dishes, beef with ginger and spicy chicken with lemongrass, were a bit different from most of the other versions I've tried, with loads of ginger with the beef and a nice caramelized sauce on the chicken. This place will jump right into my Asian food rotation. The owners said business has been so-so, because no one knows about it. I hope they make it.

re: galangatron
Went back again and it was as good as ever. Even my wife and kids who sometimes find Cambodian food a little too funky for their tastes, thought it was great. The mango salad with shrimp is amazing. I keep telling them that they have to advertise and get their name out there on the web, but I think it gets lost in translation. This is a Chowhound kind of place.
