Christmas dinner - Wine pairing suggestion for rack of lamb with a mustard, garlic, rosemary glaze

What would all you experts select for a quiet Christmas dinner tonight with my family? We are also serving a blue cheese souffle and brussel sprouts with pecans. I am leaning toward a great Barolo. Thanks and Happy Holidays.

Barolo is a fantastic idea depending upon the power of the mustard and rosemary. The blue cheese souffle gives me some pause, though. Cote-Rotie would be number 1 choice with the meat.

Great barolos tends to be subtle, the mustard & garlic combination will overpower it.

As to blue cheese souffle & brussels sprouts, that will certainly kill a great barolo's nose.

As ibstatguy suggests, I'd rather look towards CdP, or even lower ( gigondas &etc ) but young & robust.

I happen to have a 2001 Sang des Caillous in my cellar, also 1990 and 2003 Beaucastel..............hard choices!

            Go with Sang des Cailloux.
            Beaucastel is too frou-frou.

agree with RR and the Sang des Cailloux ought to be drinking wonderfully well right about now...

We had the Beaucastel 03. it was very good. The Sang des Cailloux may have been a little better with this hearty, flavorful meal, but it was great! Now Tira Misu! I appreciate your fine suggestions today and in the past. What a great thing Chowhound is! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday with your famlies!

take a look at the comments on the thread about how to pair food with the CdP. I question though how a CdP would pair up with the blue cheese souffle. Maybe a Bordeaux?
