Best place(s) to get oysters to shuck at home

Can anyone recommend reputable seafood markets where I can buy oysters for home shucking? I'm visiting from out of town and will be staying in the Toluca Lake area, but am willing to drive up to an hour to get some fresh oysters. Thanks

For oysters I'm always a big fan of Quality Seafood at the Redondo Beach Pier. The oysters are kept alive in saltwater tanks; this is the only place I've seen do this. And they absoutely cannot be beat for selection - they always have about 25 varieties on hand. Prices will range from .90 to $1.85 each. Bring a small ice chest and ask them for crushed ice to take them home. It'll probably take you longer than 1 hour, though.

Thanks! I'll be visiting a friend in Manhattan Beach for a day so I'll drop by Quality Seafood on my way out. Sounds like it'll work perfectly!

Maybe someone can answer this too on this related quip:

What about Santa Monica Seafoods? That's right by me...are the oysters fresh for shucking at home? They're on the ice not in water so I was wondering about that...what about the mussells? Are they alive in the display case like that? I want to make some mussels at home..just wondering if they are "bad" or not like this. Might be a general question for the general board or home cooking, but this is sort of related to this I think.

International Marine Products in downtown LA. Live oysters with a variety to choose from.
