Chiles Enogados in Puerto Vallarta?
My husband and I are in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We are staying in the Zona Romantica, and we really want to savor this town. But, every where we go, the food is catered to American tourists. It's either bland, or the holy trinity of "burrito," "beef taco," or "nachos!!"
Except for one amazing resturant, El Mole De Jovita. This place has the best mole I have ever had!!
I am dying for some real gourmet Mexican food, Chiles Enogados is on the top of my list. Any one with some suggestions?
You'll want to ask for this dish by its correct name: chiles en nogada. 'Nogada' means walnut sauce.
This is not, unfortunately, the season for chiles en nogada. They're usually seen on menus from about mid-August till mid-October, the time when pomegranates and fresh walnuts, both integral components of the dish, are in season. It seems unlikely that you'll find them now on restaurant menus in Puerto Vallarta.
You might try a search on this forum for Puerto Vallarta restaurants. Many people from CH eat there and many of those post back with reviews.
