New restaurant in old Agra Palace space in Somerville?

booksherpa Dec 23, 2009 08:35 AM

It looks like the old Agra Palace space in downtown Somerville (across the street from the courthouse) has been rented. I haven't been able to read the (really small!) signs posted in the windows, but it looks like the name is [Something] Grill, maybe Vida Grill or Vita Grill? Anyone have any more info?

Was finally able to stop by and look at the sign - it's Veda Grill, and it looks like it's another Indian place. It's closer for me than Bombay Spice on Prince Rodgers. I'll be curious to try it.

Several web sites have stated that Veda Grill would open in February but as of yesterday it is still under construction. There is a web site, also under construction, but the catering menu is shown and presumably this gives a pretty good idea of dishes that will be offered to restaurant patrons. I must say it looks very promising. It will be nice to once again have an Indian restaurant in the area.

If anyone tries Veda Grill, may I suggest you start a new thread about the place.

Added in Edit: One web site says that Veda Grill will offer a buffet but does not mention whether this will be at lunch, or dinner, or both.

        Veda Grill has opened.

And.....Veda Grill has closed. This place never developed any traction. The number of posts in this thread pretty much tells the story.

And yet, a mere 100' away, Verve has opened and developed into a thriving business by an incredibly outgoing, community minded owner, a n engaging waitstaff, good mixologist and by constantly re-inventing themselves with special events, hosting numerous charity functions and much much more. The fact that Verve's food is consistently high quality has also added to their success while offering cuisine specials from around the world.

So what is a key lesson that might be drawn from this tale of two restaurants?
