Larrys Ice Cream and Cupcakes

SimonF Dec 23, 2009 07:17 AM

Someone in a bar last night was raving about Larry's Cupcakes and Ice Cream in Dupont Circle, but I find very little in the way of discussion about this place posted here. How is it? What's especially good there?

Does anyone know if this is the same Larry's that used to be Larry's Cookies....going back about 30 years?

I wasn't impressed, but I'm spoiled having lived in Amherst, Ma and Pittsburgh, PA (I could live on Dave and Andys).

It's not that good - also too hard for my liking. I like soft, creamy ice cream. makes it easier to taste the different flavors. But if you're nearby, it's solid ice cream in a town with not many options.

          Honestly, I wouldn't take a special trip.

          I liked the graham/cinnamon

I've had ice cream there a few times, but not in the last year or two - I don't think it's worth going out of the way for. I've never had a cupcake there.

The ice cream is good. I always get the cookies and cream but they have some interesting flavors--green tea, Kahlua chunk, Key Lime Pie etc. They are kind of like the Ice Cream Nazi though in the sense that you need to know what you want to order before you approach the counter and they ask intensely if you want hot fudge or toppings. I tend to get nervous if I haven't decided on my flavor right away haha.

              Haven't had their cupcakes yet.
