South Georgica Barbecue

  • 3

Much has been written about barbecue in the Southern part of Georgia, but things change and places come and go. What was posted a year or two ago may not be accurate now.

With that in mind, I'd like to ask Q-hounds about their favorite places in Southern Georgia. I'll be making a road trip from the Tallahassee area to Savannah on the back roads in a few days and want to make a stop for barbecue.

This is the route I'll be taking: http://tinyurl.com/yfje5wk

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  1. Only BBQ-related, but Lang smokers are made in Nahunta. If that interests you, you could stop and check them out. We drove by on the way from the swamp to Savannah last spring. Heck, you might even call and get suggestions for where to eat from them.

    1. Southern Soul on St Simons is the best in this part of the state by the coast. Vandys in Statesboro is legendary. Been there over 50 years. Locals dont eat at the Ga Pig which so many people on here like to speak highly of.

      1. Here are some that I haven't tried in years. I welcome updates from others.

Ty Ty - Bob's, AW Cos Store, Jack Dempseys's
        Jesup - The Pig
Brunswick -- the Georgia Pig, right off the interstate
It seems like there was a good onein Pavo, too. I don't recall the name.
In Savaanh, there's Johnny Harris', but by the time you gt there you'll be ready for some seafood
