We need a recommendation to a good All you can eat sushi restaurant within a 1/2 hr drive from Hollywood Florida. Hungry college boys....

Sunday brunch at Nikki Beach is the only thing I can think of that is good.

We tried the new Shinju buffet in Davie last weekend and it was better than most sushi buffets I've experienced, but I'd rather go to a regular (non-buffet) sushi restaurant. They had one or two interesting types of nigiri (mackerel is always nice,) and a hibachi chef in back, plus an assortment of hot Chinese food. It was reviewed fairly enthusiastically by Riki Altman in the New Times this week.

The lunch buffet was around $11, which is a bargain if the alternative is Publix take-out sushi.

Shinju is definitely the place to go for a sushi buffet. We go to the one in Coral Springs.
They have fresh sushi, sashimi, nigiri, conch and seaweed salads, crab legs, great soups and a hibachi grill.
The quality is great and consistent. Its also a good place for little ones, but not overrun by kids.
As a plus (I think), there are always Asians eating there....

$11 for lunch is a PHENOMENAL deal. Hibachi is included as well (shrimp, chicken, scallops, steak) & the quality is probably better than most a la carte sushi places.

Kyojin on US1 just north of Oakland park. Good quality sushi for a buffet and pretty good chinese and hibachi.

Really? Kyojin has really gone downhill the last couple of times I was there. Some things are ok, but the sushi isn't so good. The last time I ate there I promised myself I would never go back.

Here's where I go for all-you-can eat sushi. The quality is decent, but they have all you can eat hand rolls, and tempura too. And its only like $13. The only catch is you have to eat all of the rice or they charge you for each rice ball.

Good All you can eat Sushi just doesn't go hand in hand here in Florida.....at least none that I have seen.

Agreed. Both Kyojin locations have become subpar, in the same way that the Emerald Coast went from decent to "feh." I've had better sushi from Publix. If you're in Dade, just forget "all you can eat" and pay Matsuri. In Broward, Marumi.

Pay more, get the real deal. I second the call on Marumi.

Sorry to hear that about Kyojin. Haven't been in a while and guess I won't be going back!

I tried the Kyojin Buffet today... I haven't ever had 'real' sushi before, but I wasn't impressed by theirs - I didn't hate it, but it wasn't nearly as flavourful as I expected it to be. Their other seafood was pretty ordinary too. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I wouldn't think it was worth a long drive to go there.
The best thing I ate were the vegetarian dishes - noodles, mushrooms, and sweet and sour eggplant. I think I could eat that eggplant all day long!
