Top Chef: The Cookbook -- Comments?

I'm considering buying the Top Chef cookbook for Top Chef junkie friend. Since I'm not a frequent purchaser of cookbooks, I'm hoping to hear your opinions about its content. I do like that the book includes sidebars explaining certain ingredients and techniques, though some of the explanations seem sort of elementary. (You can always ignore the sidebars, I guess.)

There are some interesting looking recipes in the book like Ilan's Macadamia Nut Gazpacho with Pan-Roasted Moi, Hung's Sous-Vide Duck with Truffle-Scented Broth and Mushroom Ragout (if one is into sous vide). There are also some pretty basic-looking recipes for, say, Marcel's Curried Lamb Kebabs, served with a sauce of mayonnaise, honey and "curry powder" (hmm....).

If you've seen or used this cookbook, how good do you think the recipes included in Top Chef: The Cookbook are, generally? And how appropriate is it for someone who's an advanced to intermediate cook?
