El Camino (San Diego)

I saw that it was open yesterday. Anybody been (stevewag)? What's their angle?

Cheers!

Did you stay late enough to see it turn into a nightclub?

It's a second location, first one is in South Park. They had a rocky start on opening, but have since improved a lot. It's like an upscale take on a taco shop. I like the one in South Park. They do an interesting habenero Caesar salad.

It's on Juniper next to Rebecca's. It's no Super Cocina (despite their use of the phrase "super cocina" in their name), but it's pretty decent. The best way I can describe it is like an El Torito that doesn't suck, with more adventurous food. They have a bar, serve pretty tasty drinks, a fun atmosphere, cool decor, and unusual versions of Mexican dishes, but nothing tastes dumbed down. I like their grilled fish stuff, and they have a fair number of vegetarian items.

your mention of an habenero caesar salad is what caught my attention...

Yeah, I really like that. It's spicy, surprisingly so for what it is, though not inedible.

Right- for some reason I hadn't made the connection between the two. Thanks. I like this line: an El Torito that doesn't suck. I would also put Ortega's in Hillcrest in that category too.
