America's Test Kitchen (need now to subscribe?)
For year's, I've been able to access free recipes from ATK with only my e-mail as a logon. Now they are requiring a CI trial, 14 day membership "sign-up" which requires credit card info to complete. I appears that you are then responsible for canceling that trial or the subscription fee will be applied.
Since when? Is this another "times are tough" indicator?
(Sorry if this has already been posted. I "looked", but found nothing)
Does anyone have their "Decadent Hot Chocolate" recipe?
Decadent Hot Chocolate
Serves 4. Published February 1, 2005.
This is literally hot chocolate, filled with rich cream and chunks of semisweet chocolate. You can substitute 4 ounces of your favorite semisweet or bittersweet chocolate bar for the chocolate chips. For an adult treat, add a bit of Tía Maria, peppermint schnapps, Kahlúa, or Grand Marnier before serving. This recipe can be doubled.
3 cups milk
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Bring the milk, cream, cocoa powder, and sugar to a boil in a medium saucepan. Off the heat, stir in the chocolate and the vanilla. Cover, let the chips melt for about 1 minute, then whisk smooth before serving.
To Make Ahead:
Hot chocolate can be refrigerated, covered tightly with plastic wrap, for up to 24 hours before serving. Reheat in the microwave or in a medium saucepan set over low heat.

They have a compilation recipe book " The Complete America's test kitchen TV Show Cook Book" covering all recipes 2001-2010. I got mine on Amazon for about $26 and got free shipping to boot. It's over 600 pages and either your recipe is not in it or the index stinks. Your recipe is not found under 'Chocolate" or "Hot" or "Decadent" nor is there any chapter that suggests it would include hot chocolate.
Thanks for the reference. It was interesting reading what others have to say. It's unfortunate that it seems you now have to be a "paying" member in order to access any of their recipes. As much as I enjoy their PBS programs, I just will not pay for a subscription to a mag that I've previously received and did not enjoy - just for the sake of 1 or 2 online recipes per year. (FWIW and before I get beat over the head - I have made contributions to my local PBS affiliate - but there too, they will beat you up for ongoing donations)
Still - if anyone can *bootleg* me the Hot Choco recipe, I'd be much happy!
