Finalizing Vegas --- Need Duck!

  • 8

We're heading to Vegas in January and I have our dinners lined up:

Botero
Sinatra
Alex
Daniel Boulud (still iffy on this one if anyone has opinions to share)

But my husband loves duck and I'm not seeing it on the posted menus for these choices. Any help??? We're not averse to going to another hotel for a fabulous duck meal.

  1. I, too, seem to have a need for duck when I'm in Vegas. One of the best duck meals I've had there has been at Le Cirque -- their on-line menu is still showing they offer "Magret de Canard - Honey Duck Magret, Hazelnuts, Figs, Muscatel Scented Apricot & Blackcurrant Sauce".
It looks like your dining choices are at the Wynn -- when you're there, you may want to take a quick check of Tableau's breakfast offerings. They used to have a wonderful duck hash on the breakfast menu. Haven't seen it recently, but not sure if that's due to the changes in chefs there or bad timing on my part -- duck hash isn't so much a light summer breakfast.
Also Bouchon has a very nice duck confit appetizer that I usually get - we seem to end up there for at least one meal every trip.

Thanks for the tips... I was batting around Le Cirque during my initial planning, but reviews are kind of hit and miss. Maybe we'll take out Boulud and do Le Cirque. We love Tableau and are definitely eating breakfast there.... love the short ribs and eggs. In fact, we had an amazing dinner there as well, which is why we put Botero on the list this time, since the chef has moved.

Having been to both Boulud & Le Cirque multiple times, I would choose Le Cirque in a heartbeat. Quality of food is definitely higher at Le Cirque. Last two visits to Boulud had particularly spotty service. If you haven't read uhockey's review of Le Cirque at http://uhockey.blogspot.com/2008/09/l..., it may help tip your thinking.

    2. Another option for consideration - Wing Lei at the Wynn offers a Five Course "Peking Duck" tasting menu. You would have to order it also (it requires a minimum of two people), if that suits your taste buds as well.

My husband and I had the Five Course "Imperial Peking Duck Tasting" and we loved it! If you like duck, this is a must.

      2. Might be different than what you are looking for, but I had some really yummy duck at Lotus of Siam. From their website:

        CRISPY DUCK....................................................................................................
        A: with CHILI MINT LEAVES....................................................กะเพราเป็ดกรอบ 19.95
Crispy duck topped with homemade fresh chili and Thai basil.
        B: with PANANG..........................................................................แพนงเป็ดกรอบ 19.95
Crispy duck topped with Thai style red cream curry sauce with cognag.
        C: with CHU-CHEE.........................................................................ฉู่ฉี่เป็ดกรอบ 19.95
Crispy duck topped with Thai red curry base sauce.
        D: on DRUNKEN NOODLE..........................................ก๋วยเตี๋ยวขี้เมาเป็ดกรอบ 20.95
Crispy duck topped with homemade fresh chili and Thai basil. Serve on
the top of pan fried flat rice noodle

I had the Crispy Duck with Panang on my last LV trip and even though I normally like everything at LOS I found this to be the first disappointing dish at LOS. The duck was dry, tasteless and overall the dish didn't really work.

        2. Thanks for all the tips. I personally don't care for duck, so we won't be able to do the Peking tasting menu. So far I'm thinking either LeCirque or calling ahead to one of the other places we will be eating at and requesting duck for my husband.

Anyone else had any experience with LeCirque recently?? I've seen posts from amazing meal to overrated. But with the pretheatre menu offered I thought it might be a good time to try it out.
