Prepared meal delivery in Silver Spring

The wife of a work colleague of mine just had major surgery. Since she is in the hospital I wanted to send some kind of food to my colleague and his kids ( two boys ages 12 and 15) since they probably don't have a lot of time to cook or prepare meals right now. I would rather send something that's more like a meal than a gift basket. I would like to spend about $50-60.

The problem is I need it to get it delivered to his house in Silver Spring and I am having trouble finding anywhere that delivers on that small a scale. I tried Honey Baked Ham but they said they couldn't deliver and couldn't add a note to a purchase. Would Whole Foods or Balduccis do something like this? Any other thoughts?

    1. Hi Iris.

Which part of Silver Spring do they live in? That might narrow it down. You can always send food from restaurants that participate in Takeout Taxi.

I think they live in the north part near Georgia Avenue and Wheaton.

          • iris45 - don't limit yourself to gourmet spots. i've given gift cards to local small restaurants to people in similar situations thinking maybe the spouse could pick something up on the way home from work or whatever. also many other restaurants deliver and will put together a meal (i.e. salad and entree). you might do some digging online. think - italian (lasagne, stuffed shells, etc with salad), rotisserie chicken with sides, if you're not sure how adventurous the sons are.

              1. There is a place called Thyme Out in Rockville where you can order prepared meals that are ready to cook or can be frozen. The meals are generally healthy and usually come ith a side dish. There is minimal effort required to prepare other than heating. They offer free delivery assuming you spend a certain amount of money. Their food is well prepared. They have been featured on Channel 4 a number of times. Check out their website.

                  1. Balduccis does deliver...I've never seen Whole Foods do that.

but with two boys, maybe you can tell your colleague you'd like to send them pizza/chinese food or something? I know my boyfriend who eats like a 15 year old boy would love that.
