Anyone tried Bittman's pad thai-style rice salad recipe?

My dad is coming for Christmas and he loves Asian flavors. Just trying to come up with a few meal ideas.
Thanks for putting this on my radar. I made it last night, using only chicken, and it was delicious.
Other bastardizations due to being snowbound and too lazy to hike to the store: No lime juice so I used fresh Meyer lemon juice. And added a heaping tablespoon of Huy Fong chili garlic sauce because... well, just because.
I haven't tried it, but I've bookmarked the recipe and will be sure to in the future, thanks! (We're super-rural and sourcing some items can be a pain unless I'm shopping online, so I loved the ketchup substitution for tamarind paste, and how to "help it along" if you do so.)
