Cantinetta Piero in Yountville rocks
Had our second dinner here last night and it is definitely a new favorite in the valley. The food is amazing and we've tried a variety of things on the menu. Sat at one of the high tables in the front windows - great seat to be able to see what's happening in the room. On to more important things....the food and wine.
Last night we tried the arancini (very flavorful), the burrata (crazy good and melted in your mouth), the salumi (amazing - housemade boar was the best) and octopus (very tender and had some great pancetta with it). Next we split a wild mushroom pizza. Each dish was great (we did the pasta and chicken last time which were also great).
Service was very friendly and atmosphere was fun. Sommelier (Ian) recommended a great medium bodied red which was perfect with the courses and started us off with a fun little sparkling which was much smoother/lighter than prosecco.
Still going strong 4 weeks later (had a great New Year's Eve there.

We have enjoyed their sister restaurant in Carmel, Cantinetta Luca, the two times we have gone. We're looking forward to trying this one.

Just curious as we are coming out to the NV in May and were planning one dinner at Bistro Don Giovanni. Which is better? Thanks!

Very different. I would say Don G's is more casual and family style (local favorite but not the best Italian you'll ever have). Piero is better food and much more authentic. I like them both, but my vote would be for Piero.

I can't wait to try this place, have you been to Bottega,? Which would you say is better? I love Bouchee in Carmel, by the same owners. The Hotel Luca looks gorgeous on their website, we're trying to decide between Hotel Luca and Bardessono for a wine country stay in March. :)

The rooms at Hotel Luca are very cute. Bardessono's are a little larger from what I recall. I'm not a Bottega fan (nor are most of the locals). If you want to see Michael C go to Bottega. If you want good food go to Cantinetta Piero. Enjoy

Bottega was totally undwhelming. It was a Michael C show. I do like him, but the restaurant was a dissappointment.

Great call on this one!! we had a lunch at Bistro don Giovanni, but a great dinner at Cantinetta Piero. Great waiter, everyone who worked there clearly loved working there. My husband and I shared the Frito Misto, some salume and the bistecca alla fiorentina. Fantastic!! One of the best meals of the week.

Glad you liked wincountrygirl. Piero definitely gets mixed reviews from some of our local friends which I can't figure out as we've never had a bad meal there (and we're picky). Service is friendly but can be spotty; however, this is pretty much an issue anywhere in Napa. Having dinner there tomorrow night on the patio after the wine auction.

Wish we could have eaten outside, but the week we were there it rained and rained and rained! Enjoy.

We had a great meal at Piero last night. Sat in a booth and enjoyed the housemade salume platter (to die for), the Bucatini (delicious and spicy) and the halibut entree which was cooked perfectly, the fish was served is a very hot skillet and just melted when we ate it. We had some homemade gelato (chochlate, vanilla and strawberry) for dessert. Don't miss the desserts they all look very good. Cant wait to go back, next time we will try and stay at the hotel.

At Piero, we've had truly terrible service twice in a row (obviously whoever is managing does not know how to train servers). We waited a half-hour for our cocktails. Our appetizer pizza didn't come, but when it did the prosciutto was left off. The manager intervened and the waiter lied about our having ordered it. Bogus. The sommelier completely abandoned us, our wine, and request for glasses.
Something completely annoying: nearly all the personnel fake a thick Italian accent, and yet don't pronounce menu items properly. It gets old fast, and if you say something in Italian in response, they have no idea what you're talking about.
Food has been OK but with strangeness. Mussels were not altogether fresh. A friend and I each ordered mussels and we sat at diagonal ends of a 6-top and they decided to serve them "family-style" so each of us had to reach into the middle of the table to grab each mussel -- not thought out. Good funghi pizza, calzone, wonderful salads one evening but the same salads were prepared not so wonderfully on the next visit. Great risotto. I'd say it's iffy. If you like mixed drinks, the bartender there does some fancy hip cocktails.

Thanks for update Maria. Unfortunately somewhat consistent with what we're hearing from others. We haven't been in quite awhile based upon the issues you mentioned. Too bad as we live so close we were really excited when it opened. We have tried Oenotri and enjoyed it (slow service, but liked the food although it wasn't super hot when came out).
