Best Romantic Italian

This will be an early week dinner, so I don't think reservations will be a problem. As long as prices are commensurate with quality, then we don't have any issues. Please no restaurateurs with more than 2 places. We know the formula and we enjoy the formula, but I am not looking for a B+ meal from a high end factory. Thank you.

My husband and I had a delightful, delicious meal at Local Kitchen and Wine Bar on Queen at Roncesvalles. The pasta was yummy and the ambiance is romantic in a lively, cheerful kind of way. Not in a quiet, gaze-into-each-other's eyes kind of way. I loved being there. The service was wonderful. I can't wait to go again!

Three (and a half) suggestions come to mind... all with slightly differing spins on romantic:

      1. Mistura - High end, perhaps ever so slightly corporate in feel (IMHO). Excellent service. Amazing wild boar agnolotti, good wine list and nice execution on cocktails. Desserts also a hit. Priciest on my list, but I do think commensurate with quality.

      2. Sopra (the "half" since it is upstairs to Mistura) - Pretty much the same food quality, but a lovely and (I think) more romantic room. Jazz music venue, so you need to factor for yourself whether that's a plus or minus. The other option is to split the evening between the two venues (pre-dinner cocktails or dessert upstairs, main event down, etc).

      3. L'Unita - Neighbourhood-y and bustle-y. Very good Italian wine list because this is a luxe nabe. Excellent lighting for romance. Don't get stuck at the kids' tables in the back hall near the kitchen.

      4. Tutti Matti - Bistro-y feel in the entertainment district. Authentic Tuscan including great homemade pasta. The kitchen undertakes yearly pilgrimages to the Old Country, and it shows.

L'Unita makes it very difficult to NOT get stuck at the kids' table in the narrow hallway even if you request alternate seating while making the reservation. I was told they would make the effort only to get the hallway the last two times I was there. On one occasion I was feteing a friend's birthday. Horrifying to have such bad seating for a best friend. On both occasions there were two-tops available in the main room. It seems they have a casual relationship with the truth. For this alone I won't return. I don't care how good it is if I feel like I'm eating in a closet. They are OFF my romanctic location list.
