Raw Aura - Port Credit raw food restaurant...
Has anyone been to Raw Aura? A friend at a party tonight mentioned it and I didn't know Port Credit had a raw food restaurant so I googled and came across Raw Aura. I have been to Rawlicious and Live Organic Food Bar before and I enjoy both (been multiple times to both). I am curious about this new place. I will definitely try to make it out at some point but even though I live out that way most of my friends are in downtown TO...
If anyone has gone, I am curious if there are any particular "must try" dishes.
The Chef, Doug, at Raw Aura used to work at Live. At Raw Aura, I recommend the appetizer ravioli ($10) (addictive sauces) topped with kale chips. I don't recommend the mac&cheese which has a strong unpleasant moldy taste (supposedly from dried thyme). The pad thai ($14) is extremely hot -- overpowered by onion and intense spice, but edible. Pecan pie ($9) is dense and lovely. Juices ($7) are decent - pear/pink grapefruit and beet/ginger. Friendly service. Raw Aura is owned by the owners of the Jam Martini Bars.
Food at Rawlicious seems quite amateur. Great strawberry milkshake (with avocado for thickness) but ho-hum pizza. The menu is short and simple. Not a Chow destination, in my opinion. The staff don't even recommend the pasta dish. I'd give the pizza at Rawlicious 6/10 compared to 10/10 at Live.
I had no idea this place existed. I have never been to a raw restaurant, but I have dabbled in raw cuisine at home. I'm eager to hear comments from anyone who has dined at Raw Aura. For that matter, Ylsf, what are some "must try" dishes at Live Organic Food Bar and Rawlicious?
