50th Hip Chick Birthday - Help me narrow down res with Private room & good food

timpano Dec 18, 2009 11:26 AM

Planning a 50th birthday party for January. Looking at having a party with 20-30 people. Preference is a place where people can arrive, mingle, have a few cocktails then sit down for dinner. There will be a range of people/palates and we are looking at anywhere from 50/pp to 120/pp depending on the type of place and quality of food. Some options we are thinking of are:

Globe Bistro - Upstairs
Quince - although there seems mixed reviews
Noce - not sure if they have a private area
Oro - the downstairs room with the fire

I'd really appreciate some advice. She's a great person and we'd like to pick out a great location with great food and service.

Carens has an upstairs private area, great food and service.

Czehoski's on Queen West has a private third level, a fun lounge on the 2nd level, great location, drinks, food and service.

A friend who put on a party there also got them to do some off the menu food.

From your list, I'd go with Globe. I wonder if their new resto Earth has a private room? Maybe worth checking out.

Earth has a small room that would hold up to 15 people, so it won't work in this case.

Carens is great. Table 17 also has a private room upstairs that would probably hold 30 people for a sit down meal. www.table17.ca I would avoid Joy unless they've improved greatly. The served me the worst lunch and dinner of my life.

When was this? Ownership/kitchen has changed several times.

this was 1.5-2 years ago. I understand it's new owners now. So, I should roll the dice again on this one.
