Dunno if the name is right, but while at Santa Fe a while back I had the most delicious pork soft tacos. Was told the pork was marinated in sour orange juice.

Entire thing was just a warm soft, hand made corn tortilla, filled with a handful of sour pork and garnished with a cool dollop of sour cream. Easily finished in 3 bites.

Have not been able to find a good equivalent in SoCal. Any leads?

Thanks.

Sounds like cochinita pibil tacos. The pork is marinated with a combination of tangy orange juice (Seville oranges if possible) and achiote. Most Yucatecan places have cochinita pibil, e.g., El Portal in Pasadena and that place in Mercado La Paloma near downtown

Cochinita Pibil can also be found in burrito form, if of interest, at Yuca's Hut in Los Feliz on Hillhurst across from Albertsons. The Herreras are from Yucatan.

A great lunch time option for those downtown is the Cochinita Pibil at the yacatecano restaurant Chichen Itza, inside Mercado La Paloma:

CHICHEN ITZA
3655 S GRAND AVE, stall C6
LOS ANGELES, CA 90007

Cochinita Pibil is served in a taco, torta or a plate. The dish is cooked by marinating pork with achiote (anatto seed paste), sour oranges and spices and cooked in a banana leaf (think en papillote). All dishes are served with marinated red onions, with the plate having rice, beans and tortillas. The place makes a great salsa also.

Information (and a downloadable menu) for Chichen Itza (and other restaurants at Mercado La Paloma) can be found at the link included.
