I agree with John's Philly Grill; been to the Huntington Beach location. If you're up for a drive, try Philly Frank's in San Marcos.

I can't believe people suggested South Street!! That place is terrible. Philly West on the other hand is fantastic. A little known secret though is the grill to order at UCLA's hospital cafeteria...big rolls, good steak, provolone, bell peppers, mushrooms and grilled onions. But Philly West is the winner so far, though I personally am still looking for better

i've never been to philly so i don't know about authentic, but from what i've read this place is not . . . and maybe that's a good thing. I love Philly West, 1870 Westwood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA. It's open early and late and is great and cheap. It's a bar/restaurnat - not fast food, but you can get it to go. I think it's around $4-5 for a cheesesteak.

South Street (mentioned below) is fairly authentic. I believe they fly in Amoroso's rolls and have a Cheez Whiz option. It's expensive, considering what it is, but that may be due to their operating expenses vis a vis the rolls.

I thought the sandwiches were good but kinda pricey. Not sure how they compare to a real philly cheesesteak.
