Xmas Eve in Pittsburgh

I was trying to find some decent place open on Xmas eve, even if we could go there earlier in the day.

My boyfriend had his mind set on Piper's Pub, but when I called them, they said they are closed Xmas eve.

I called Sharp Edge and the bar is only open until 4 p.m.

We were looking for something with food, good beer and low-key.

Any suggestions? thanks.

I called Ibiza and they said they weren't open. We opted for Tamari - maybe not Piper's for beer, but we love the food.

how about the restaurants in the upscale downtown hotels? you might enjoy the new Braddocks in the Renaissance.

China Millman just gave them the worst review I think I've ever read from her . . . Not saying she's the final word on a place, but something to consider.

understood, BUT being a very specific request for a tough day...it's an option. hopefully they'll get it together.

I just ate at Braddock and really enjoyed the food. The service was poor. An hour and a half should be plenty of time to eat a few plates of tapas and we barely made it to the Byham in time for the show. I thought the food was really good. China is a little tough on the food part of restaurants. The service needs improvement, definitely. I wouldn't write them off.

It's tough to know where to go on a holiday. It may not be the kind of place that you are looking for but the Rhythm House in Bridgeville is open and they also open on Christmas day at 6. They sometimes have live music on Thursdays, but I don't know if they will then. They serve food, but it's typical bar food...Nothing great, but the beer's good!
