Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Valentine's Day 2010 FML! Help!

So I hate valentines day in NYC...be honest we all hate Valentines day in NYC. Prix Fixed meals that are terrible and absurdly expensive (when food is great $ isnt an issue for me). I would avoid it at all cost but I love my girlfriend and lets be honest she would be upset if I didnt take her out. Last year we went to Dovetail and it was awfullllllllllllll...So I am asking if anyone knows a great place or has an alternative idea. I would rather not have a prix fixed meal but if I have to I would love it to be really amazing and not absurd. Anything is fair game even a weird adventure to gasp coney island. I love La Sirene, Nougatine, Tabla, Momofuku Ssam (who doesn't),...But I dont know about their V-day situation...lets get the thread going early for all the males who would actually like to have fun on Valentines day.

    1. Hi:

We've already removed some posts suggesting that the OP not eat in a restaurant on Valentine's Day. We realize that may well be good advice, but that suggestion is off-topic for the Manhattan board. If you do have suggestions for places for the OP to go to on Valentine's Day, please do post them.

      Thanks.

        1. I don't know how amenable your girlfriend would be to this, but three years ago we started celebrating Valentine's Day with dinner in Chinatown. It started when I was searching for a nice restaurant and decided to go to THE Nice Restaurant (now closed, I think). Next we went to Oriental Garden, and then Chatham Square. It was a lot of fun. It is not capital R romantic, of course, but you can have lobster on the cheap. Maybe there will even be shrimp roe on the menu, and you can call it caviar! And in 2010, the Year of the Tiger begins on February 14th, so things might be especially festive.
