Houston "fresh" pickles

Does anyone know a place that makes their own pickels in Houston? Looking to buy some to take home.

Kenny and Ziggy's make them I'm pretty sure, and more than one type. Give them a buzz at 713-871-8883. They are just down the block from the Galleria.

I read something recently about that, and they used to but went through so many that now they get them shipped in from NY. It was either in the Houston Press or . . . I'll have to think about it.

Yes, I did read it in the HP. Go to the entry about K&Z to see:

We ate there last week and they always give you a bowl of pickles before the meal comes. I'm not a pickle expert but like them okay. I wouldn't drive across town just to buy them though. My husband does love pickles and he made no comment about them.

I was looking around the internet for you and found, on B4-U-Eat, this place in Hempstead named Junior's Smokehouse, where the sell homemade pickles. Never heard of this place, but once I went to the website I do believe we have stopped in there before. We brake for jerky and they have a large selection of it.

I'm sure there are other sources. I would check out the farmers markets and you might find them there. Most of the time you can find fresh pickles at things like school festivals or church bazaars, and such as that, but that ship has sailed I think. Good luck!

Oh, you might also check out some of the specialty meat markets. Long shot, but may be worth it.
