Best Chicken Parm Dinner in Queens?

Hi all - I'm looking for recommendations for where to take my sister for a welcome home dinner. She's coming into Kennedy Airport after several months out of the country and has specifically asked for an Italian restaurant, and that means she wants a Chicken Parmigiana dinner. Any suggestions? Anywhere in Queens is ok -- we'll be headed north out of the city after dinner, so don't want to get too far towards Long Island. thanks!

    1. J&D is a little pizza joint in Rego Park, but they make really terrific chicken parm, big portion, and comes with a nice big salad, too...and cheap. --not exactly welcome home decor, but good nonetheless...you might want to hit Parkside in Corona, they are good for that kind of stuff--and it's centrally located to where you need to drive to...another option is to go somewhere in Howard Beach, several options there--

where in Rego Park is J&D?

It's on 63rd Road, close to 99th street--good little neighborhood place with a chef who will make you anything you want--good minestrone soup--huge portion and comes with garlic knots...pastas are very good, too...and big fresh salad.

So it's the block behind the bagel place. I can't believe I've never been before, have worked at Lefrak for 16 years! Will try for lunch when the weather is 10 degrees warmer. BTW, have you heard any of the rumors about food in the new, hopefully to open in a few months mall w/the Century 21 and Kohl's? Five guys?

I did hear that 5 guys is going to be there--but we go to the 5 guys near to Trader Joe's a lot. And there is supposed to be a costco there as well...

                2. Near the airport or on the way to the Whitestone Bridge (which is I assume the way you are headed)- I'd go with Matteo's or Don Pepe's. I've had the chicken parm at Parkside and was unimpressed. I hear good things about La Tavernetta but haven't tried it- that's in Forest Hills so not too far off your route.

Curious what the flaws were with Parkside's

It was fried a little too much, the chicken was too thin, and the cheese was melted for a little too long.

you'd probably like J&D's, completely the opposite of that, and finished in the pizza oven.

                          • If you are going north out of the city, you could stop at Arthur Ave on your way out of the city. I like Don Pepe's too, which is not far from the airport.

                              1. parkside, la tavernetta, sarabella are decent options.
