Pierogies in Nova Scotia

caperbaker Dec 14, 2009 06:03 AM

I usually make my own pierogies for Christmas but just won't have time this year. Does anyone know where I could buy homemade pierogies in Nova Scotia? Halifax or Sydney preferably. I've yet to find a decent store bought pierogi so it's either homemade that someone else made this Christmas, or no pierogies at all. :o(

This is an old post, but I'll just mention that there are Polish pierogy vendors at both farmer's markets. The one at the Brewery market has a smaller variety, I think, but sells them with an AMAZING mushroom sauce(And also sells wonderful giant cabbage rolls!) The one at the International market at the Seaport on fridays has a pretty big variety, some stuffed with mushrooms. I think she's sometimes at the Saturday market too.

To froddard ! At the Brewery market there is a pretty big variety of frozen pierogies: pierogies with potatoes & cottage cheese, potatoes & cheddar cheese, sauerkraut &mushrooms, with blueberries, potatoes&cheddar cheese+bacon and with meat. Those are the frozen ones.
There are also fresh pierogies: pierogies with potatoes & cottage cheese, potatoes & cheddar cheese, sauerkraut &mushrooms.

I know it is a year after your posting but you can buy fresh pierogies in the Halifax Costco whenever the 'pierogi' vendor is there. Not sure what their schedule is - sorry. As well, there could be someone at the Halifax Seaport Market on Friday's International market day. Good luck! Thankfully you can make them in a crunch unlike so many other European food items lacking in this city.

I have seen frozen pierogies at the Harbourview Market in Darmouth. I don't know if the vendor is there every week. Go to the left as you come in the front door, keep circling to the left, they are on the outside wall.
