Credit Card Acceptance

Hikari Dec 13, 2009 08:17 PM

I'm trying to find grocery stores that accept American Express (Amex) in Montreal. I know a lot don't like Loblaw and IGA.

I found this list of grocery stores: http://www.highwayhome.com/travel/tou...

I tried going to their websites but they do not list the specific credit cards they accept. On that note, does anybody know if Marche Hawai accepts Amex?

Marche Hawai doesn't accept any credit cards, unfortunately.

neither does Milano, or Adonis.. But Akhavan does!

Metro did, at some point, but then again, it's not much better than IGA and Loblaws...

Metro currently accepts AmEx. I agree AmEx is way-nicer to its customers than MC/Visa. However it seems to be a zero-sum game from the cc's point of view -- that is, either they're nice to the merchant and not to the customer (MC/Visa) or nice to the customer and not to the merchant (AmX) -- hence so few of the smaller stores use AmX. I always try but almost always have to resort to MC/Visa. Costco doesn't qualify as a "grocery store", surely, but they do sell groceries and accept (exclusively) AmX. Provigo takes AmX.

interesting!? The various branches must be semi-autonomous. I am almost positive the one in Monkland Village does but it's also the case that my memory is rotten, so I'll report back...
