Musashi/Benihana type place in SFV? Kid Friendly Please!
I thought it would be fun to take my kids (just turned 6 and just turned 4) to a teppan grill type place. I know of Musashi (haven't been there in ages) and Benihana in Encino (haven't been there in a while either). Any other teppan places that would be kid friendly? It doesn't have to have the absolute best food, but rather the best overall experience (food + show) for the kids.
If those are my two choices, which one should we go to? Again, I haven't been to either in several years. Is the Porter Ranch Musashi better/worse than the Tampa/Nordhoff one or are they fairly comparable? Again, we're doing this for the kids, not for our own dining pleasure -- we'd be going to Saddle Peak or Morton's if we were doing it for the food! LOL
TIA!
You could try Gyu-kaku in Sherman Oaks or Woodland Hills where you cook for yourself. My kids love it and it's kind of fun.

My 6 year old also loves to watch the Teppan chef do his thing rather than eat. We found Yamato in Encino OK. They also have a smaller Teppan grill table for 4 persons only. This kinda makes it exclusive for a small family. The first time we went to a Teppanyaki with our kid, a couple across us sharing the same "table" were romantic throughout dinner and made us uncomfortable for our kid.

i was going to suggest Yamato as well. they're very good with kids. i've had good sushi there on the other side of the restaurant at the bar as well. urasawa it's not, but still affordable.

Third for Yamato. The show is good. I don't like the food very much, but it is less expensive than Benihana and decent. (My parents and brother actually like the food a lot.) With respect to sushi, however, I would stay away from anything that actually involves nigiri. The mayonnaise-based rolls are better (though, if that is the desire, I would go across the street to Hirosuke).

Honestly, I think I'm the only fan of Benihana on this entire board. Yes, I love the teriyaki steak, okay? And the onion soup, and the ginger dressing on the salad. Don't shoot me. Anyhoo, have been to the Encino one many times, have always found it DELISH! Get them to do the beating heart/chicken fried rice thing for you. I mean your kids :)
