San Rafael - Tom & Dave's Specialty Coffees

  • 1

An amazing Basque dinner the other night ended with an amazing cup of coffee. The restaurant owner said it was Tom and Dave's.

This company has been in business since 1980 with few mentions on the web. There are two five-star reviews on Yelp and a brief Chronicle mention ... from 1999.

"Tom & Dave's assertive roasts have won the small Marin County company a batch of awards"

I love assertive coffee and this cup was sooo much better than my long-time favorite, Graffeo.

They also sell and repair espresso machines. There's a brief Chowhound mention that the service is reasonable.

I'm not sure if they just sell online and supply local restaurants. Another place that serves their coffee is 9 Islands Portuguese Bakery in Rohnert Park. Still ... I have never seen the name on coffee dispensers or on menus.

Here's a list of their beans

Not sure which I tried but since the restaurant was totally organic, I'm assuming it is one of the Fair Trade organic beans.

Has anyone else had this coffee?

  1. Their coffee is good. Another thing to note is they repair and service espresso machines. I had a blown pressure stat on a 60's era Olympia espresso machine, they had it up and running for under $100.
