Charlotte for Christmas Dinner?

jcatlike Dec 10, 2009 03:23 PM

My husband and I will be heading north to visit family for the holidays the week of New Year's. We had planned on leaving to drive up the day after Christmas, but now we're thinking that if nothing is going on in our social circle, we might just start driving on Christmas Day and stay overnight in Charlotte. I've checked Open Table for reservations and they list BLT Steak, McCormick & Schmick's, MeZ and a couple of other places. Does anyone know of any other restaurants in the Uptown area that are open for the holiday or have any recommendations?

I haven't eaten there, but there have been several glowing reports on Chowhound for the Ember Grill, located in the Westin Hotel: www.chowhound.com/topics/654165 Since its in a hotel, I would think it would be open on Christmas, although you might want to contact them to confirm that. Ratcliffe on the Green would be another good choice, if they are open.

The Charlotte Observer's restaurant critic, Helen Schwab, does a write-up every year of restaurants open on Christmas. Usually including or linking to a menu. Keep an eye on her blog:

And I was probably one of the people glowing about Ember Grille ;-). Don't know about holidays, but it is a great restaurant. I usually write off hotel restaurants but they are often open on holidays. Another great one is Monticello, in the Dunhill Hotel. Classic menu, classic style.
