Staying at the Dana Hotel- where should we get dinner?

mem53 Dec 9, 2009 06:49 AM

My friend and I will be staying at the Dana Hotel this weekend for a girls' weekend. We are both getting into Chicago around 7:30 Friday night. We are probably going to want to go out for drinks/dinner (or a few appetizers to make up dinner) at a fun bar or restaurant. Since we don't know what time we'll be getting in a ready to go out, I am looking for a place that I could get a seat without a reservation at around 8:30 or 9 pm. Price is not really an issue. We are both in our mid-30's and want to go to a fun "trendy" place, but no clubs or anything filled with crowds of drunk 24 year olds. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Quartino is a block South of your hotel. A table for 2 may not necessarily work as a walk-in but they have bar service and it's a nice bar. They specialize in Italian small plates. In any case, your hotel is surrounded by restaurants so if you're looking for anything in particular, choices abound.

Quartino is a great recommendation. A few blocks further are two additional places that seem like what you're looking for: Cafe Iberico for tapas ( www.cafeiberico.com ), and Nacional 27 for Latin fusion cuisine ( www.nacional27.net ).

I'd like to say this in a non-sexist, gender neutral manner, but chicks dig Nacional 27.

Ferrett, FWIW, the minute you used the words "chicks dig..." it was neither non-sexist nor gender neutral. As a woman, I do like Nacional 27, but I only like it for big groups. I don't think I would choose it for a couple. It's fun and trendy, but a little too raucous for my taste for just two.

That's why I prefaced it with "I'd LIKE to say it..."

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We ended up walking down to Quartino around 10pm. The place was packed but we got lucky and found seats in the bar. Ordered an assortment of appetizers and a half carafe of wine. The mussels were great by the way. It was perfect- exactly what we were looking for. Thanks again!
