Anybody know a great gourmet cheese shop in raleigh or durham?

I'm trying to find a delicious cheese shop in the area.

The guy who was the cheese buyer at WF Raleigh (and I believe still is, Zak) is brilliant with cheese. Absolutely brilliant. He makes sure to run a time ship as far as freshness and ordering and does not hesitate to talk whenever you have a question. If you get a chance to stop by and he's there, ask him for a recommendation and he'll be spot on.

For the record, I despise Whole Foods, but the cheese selection can't be beat.

Agree that it would be wonderful to have a cheese shop in the area, but since it seems that we don't, I concur with previous posters that Southern Season and WFs are the way to go (especially SS). If you can't find what you want from them, try http://www.artisanalcheese.com/ - they're out of NYC and have an amazing selection. not the same as being able to go in and sample though.

Since someone else posted this on another thread.. Weaver Street may have a few cheeses the other places do not... THere are two locations in Chapel Hill and one in Hillborough.

Whole Foods Raleigh has a fairly good selection.

In Raleigh, Whole Foods seems to have the best selection. Earth Fare has a decent selection, but they are so slow that I doubt they turn it over very fast.

I have not seen a shop dedicated to just cheese in this area. I hope that I am wrong about this!

I asked this question many moons ago. I was directed to Souther Season in Chapel Hill. I've been very pleased with their selection, and the staff are very knowledgeable and quick with samples.

I second Southern Season. They know their cheese.
