Duck breasts in the Triangle

Does anyone know where I can buy duck breasts in the triangle, preferably in N. Raleigh?

I watched Alton Brown's 'Twas the Night Before Good Eats' episode last night and one of the things he prepared was duck. He suggested ordering your fresh duck online from the closest processor who will ship, but he didn't say why ...

Grand Asia Market at South Hills shopping off Buck Jones Rd in Cary always has whole duck, i can not recall if they sell just breasts (one can usually find duck tongues though)

Fresh Market Cary usually has duck breasts, not cheap, think $13 lb. I would think the Fresh Mrk in N Raleigh would also have breast as well.

Harris Teeter might have frozen, especially this time of year.

Cane Creek has had whole ducks recently at the Carrboro Farmer's Market. Not precisely what you want, obviously, but it is a local source.

Try calling Whole Foods, too. I've seen them there. Not cheap though.

First WFs told me they didn't sell duck (cruelty issues), and then they told me they only sold it frozen. But if you've seen fresh breasts recently, I am excited. Thanks for the info.

WF just sells prepackaged Bell&Evans duck breasts-- small and too pricey. Same goes for Fresh Market.

Da Vinchi in Wake Forest is a good bet. Their products are fantastic.

No clue about N. Raleigh but they can be purchased at A Southern Season in Chapel Hill or at Cliff's Meat in Carrboro.

Last time I tried Cliff's (admittedly probably 2 years ago) they only sold legs. I've had a heck of a time finding non-frozen duck breasts around here.

If you want non-frozen then Southern Season is the place. They actually keep them in the fridgerator section where the cheese spreads, pates, and such are, not the freezer cases. They are in Kryovac bags. Now, whether they are frozen during their transporation from Long Island NY I'm not positive about that.

If Cliff doesn't have duck breasts on hand he is willing to cut breasts off of whole duks for you-- at least he did for me. May want to call ahead though because I'm sure his ducks are frozen so he'd have to have one thawed in order to do so.

This is all great info. I like Cliff, so I'll give him the first shot, but it is good to know that SS has them too. I yearn for duck breasts and see great recipes all the time. Thanks bbqme.
