Wedding venue for intimate Friday night wedding/cocktail reception

My Fiance and I have started the whole wedding planning process and I am honestly finding it all a bit overwhelming, we have a small budget of $5000 and even with the bare minimum (Friday night, no dinner etc..)it seems impossible.
Our vision is to have an Friday evening ceremony (7pm.) We would like to have a buffet of finger foods/desserts around 10pm followed by dancing and general good times.
Are guest list is sitting between 60-80 people. I don't really know what kind of venue I should be looking at, we need a space that can hold 80min, that will let us skip the dinner and do a buffet/sweet table instead but still gives us space to have some sort of seating and a dance floor.
Does anyone have experience with this kind of wedding? Can you recommend an affordable venue?
I'm so lost...Help!

  1. You can see if 424 Wellington is available.

I've been to a couple of events there and it's a nice, casual, space. A friend did their "rave" reception in there and had a dessert buffet and candies all around. I think there were two drink tickets at the door and then cash bar the rest of the night. You'd have to bring in your own caterer and DJ.

Since it's multi-floored, you could have your wedding in the rooms downstairs (maybe) and then move your party upstairs for desserts and dancing. You could have someone take care of converting the downstairs rooms into seating areas for the less-rambunctious.

    Really decently priced venue!

I second this suggest. It is one of the only places in the city where it would be possible to do this on your budget. One item to remember is that you need rentals as well (glasses, plates, table clothes etc) so be sure to factor that into your costing.

    2. I definitely suggest Pallucci restaurant on Mount Pleasant (at Davisville). They will accommodate regardless of your price range and the atmosphere is cool and contemporary.

      1. How far out of the downtown core are you willing to go? The Latvian Centre on Eglinton just east of the DVP has facilities and offers catering at excellent prices. Parking is great but of course no easy access by TTC. I went to a wedding there years ago and it was one of the most enjoyable I've ever been to.

        1. You might have more luck on a wedding forum. Have you seen this thread?
