Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Chicago gal needs help with lunch in Manhattan...

Heading to NY this weekend and looking for a spot for lunch on Friday after the whirlwind of Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty. We're open to any hood between Battery Park up to the Parker Meridien (56th and 6th), where we're staying.

We'd like a nice place to sit down and enjoy lunch and a glass of wine. Nothing touristy, obviously. We're open to most cuisines, except Indian and Asian (going to Buddakan for dinner). Price range is moderate. Not inexpensive, but not over the top. Less than $100 for two with a glass of wine. Also, a restaurant near some shopping or a great neighborhood to just walk around in after would be a bonus.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks - I thought about Balthazar, but was concerned it might be hard to get a reservation four days out.

Week day lunch shouldn't be much of an issue. But if you want solid food in the same neighborhood you might also consider Savoy.

Definitely Balthazar, you shouldn't have a problem with the reservation if you're a little flexible with what time. Also consider lunch at The Little Owl in the West Village. I had dinner there on Thursday night and it was really great!

          (I'm from Chicago, too!)

      2. gramercy tavern, tavern side, should work for you.
        reservations neither required nor accepted.
