I need it for tomorrow.I live in Oakland.I have used Montclair Baking (good) , Ladyfingers and Neldhams (not good). Is Costco an abomination? I need a cake for about 15 people. What about the Just Dessert cakes at Costco?

Try Sweet Adeline--I think they usually require 48 hours notice for large or custom cakes, but they might have cakes in stock that would serve 15 people--their cakes are really excellent.

The Just Desserts cakes at Costco are quite good. They're available at various other places: http://www.justdesserts.com/cafes_ala...

      Crixa is awesome.

I may be too late, but in case not, I'd second the vote for Crixa! They are the best.

I'm a huge fan of Masse's Pastries to walk in and buy a birthday cake. But, they're pricey.

You could also try Berkeley Whole Foods.
Everything I've had from their bakery is good.

The Just Dessert chocolate cake is really quite delicious and the lemon is also quite good. I second the Masse's recommendation, though they are expensive, but I wouldn't go with Sweet Adeline unless you were feeding a lot more people as their sheet cakes are a great value but aren't as tasty as some of your other options. At Masse's I've always enjoyed their opera cake and their chocolate cakes are always a hit. For a different kind of dessert, La Farine's tarts with their pastry creme are amazing.

Have you considered Merritt Bakery. Safeway or Luckys grocery store. Costco isn't bad either. A big cake for the money. Cold Stone. They may just carry ice cream cakes though. Loards Ice creamery, or Fentons on Piedmont ave. Good Luck.....
